New Arrivals: Over 2,000 Jazz LPs!
You jazz lovers out there might have noticed that it?s been a little while since we had a large jazz collection come in. Today we are pleased to announce a beauty of over 2,100 titles.
The gentleman who collected these over many years had eclectic jazz tastes (he worked for a jazz institute), and as a consequence the titles are all over the place. They range from swing, through Dixie and traditional, to the classic bop era, with a smattering of vocal and more modern jazz thrown in. He bought many of his records here throughout the years, and it is a lot of fun for us to see some of our original price stickers from the inception of our store (one is featured in our video). The records are for the most part in excellent shape; the collector clearly loved and took good care of his records.
This collection is not heavy on super-rarities. The vast majority of titles have been priced from $1.00 to $4.99, but there is a nice selection of later-press classic titles and a handful of original pressings. The two most notable are an original ?homemade? Saturn pressing of Sun Ra?s ?Over the Rainbow? and a first press of Lee Morgan on Blue Note records ?Vol.3?, 47 W. 63rd St. address, deep groove, no ?R? on label, ?RVG? and ?ear? etches, very clean (just a slight scuff) with a glossy cover in great shape (small one inch fray on spine). As far as we can tell, this is one of the cleanest copies that have been put up for sale in several years.
You can see a brief movie about this collection at our blog www.prex.com/blog. We don?t have the time to list all the titles, obviously, but it does give a feel for the scope. If you are looking for a nice cross-section of inexpensive jazz records, it?s a great time to come visit us. _______________________________________________________________________
On another note, we are running an in-store contest featuring one of our favorite quirky bands, Devo. We are giving away two copies of their new album, ?Something for Everybody? which is coming out on Tuesday, June 15. One prize will come with that CD and four of their catalog titles on CD, and the other prize also has the new CD (it?s not out on vinyl yet) and the four catalog titles on LP. All product courtesy of WEA (thanks guys!).
Entries will be accepted in-store from Friday afternoon, June 11 through Monday June 14. No purchase necessary to enter, but you must drop off in person (sorry, no mail entries)
Just marked down roughly 800 jazz LPs! We have a line on a largish jazz collection, so figured we’d make some space. We’ve also marked down around 500 rock records and 100 or so “rarities” The jazz markdowns are separated out; you’ll have to dig around for the others…have fun Princeton Record Exchange 20 S. Tulane St. Princeton, NJ, 08542 609-921-0881 Paintings by Mr. Leipzig will be on view through June 30th at our gallery located at 8 South Tulane Street. The centerpiece of this exhibition is a large scale work consisting of a five panel composite portrait of the architect and Princeton resident Michael Graves. Painted in 2009, it features the subject in his home and studio. Mel Leipzig teaches Painting and Art History at Mercer County Community College. He received his BFA from Yale University and his MFA from Pratt Institute.
The Princeton Farmers Market has a new location this summer. On Thursday, June 17th, opening at 11am in Hinds Plaza next to the Princeton Public Library on Witherspoon Street, the market’s tents will be bursting with a wonderful array of fresh food from our local farmers and bakers. There will be a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from Cherry Grove Organic Farm, J & L Farms, Terhune Orchards, and Fruitwood Orchards; various raw milk cheeses and eggs from both the Cherry Grove Farm and the Valley Shepherd Creamery; fresh flowers from Longview Flowers; miniature pies, pastries, and shortbreads from Jen’s Lillipies and Simply Nic’s; local honey and beeswax products from the Tassot Apiaries; Tico’s Juices using fresh and local ingredients; Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms; breads and pastries from Witherspoon Bread; Whole Earth Center’s selection of recipes using their whole grains and the fresh foods. There will also be delicious Chef’s tasting samples prepared by the Nassau Street Seafood. The Library will be selling “Books by the Pound”—with a wide range of subjects connected to healthy living. Northeast Organic Farmers Association of New Jersey will be sharing their work in keeping farms in New Jersey and all the educational programs which they teach. At 2:00 Tom Spain’s Stimulus Package will burst forth with his Dixieland Jazz Band’s music resounding throughout the Plaza. Future visiting organizations will be Sustainable Princeton, D & R Greenway Landtrust selling their native species plants, Rutgers University Gardens, Garden State Home, Isles, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed, Boys and Girls Club Bike Exchange, Princeton Schools Gardens Coop, and more. Many music groups will also be performing. The Market is being sponsored by the JM Group, the Terra Momo Restaurant Group, and the Borough of Princeton. The Market will be on every Thursday from 11 to 5, rain or shine, throughout the summer and fall until October 28th.
